Library Research Guides, often called LibGuides, are created by Coulter Librarians. Think of them as research roadmaps, helping students find the best resources for a specific topic, course, or assignment. Expertly curated, each guide features useful databases, physical and electronic resources, and highlights reliable websites, all of which are packed with high-quality, relevant, and authoritative information. Our Research Guides are a fantastic and reliable starting point for any research project.
Beyond our subject specific guides, we’ve built guides to support your students' research skills, offering helpful tips and guidance on research strategies, citation styles, and source evaluation, all geared to boost student information literacy skills.
To begin, navigate to the Coulter Library website: www.sunyocc.edu/library.
Under the “Collections” section of the main navigation menu, select “Research guides” and click on the link.
You can also access the Research Guides page directly via: https://sunyocc.libguides.com/.
The LibGuides homepage is organized by subject by default. The small numbers indicate the number of guides available on each subject.
“Humanities,” for example, has six different guides on narrowed topics. Click on the sub-topic to access the guide.
The main page of each guide features a short introduction and highlights Librarian curated “Best Bets” specific to the subject. Each guide follows a standardized internal navigation; use the tabs at the top of the page to navigate between sections.

Click on the linked title of a chosen database or ebook to access it.
Research Guides also focus on general research "how-to" with guided instruction on information literacy skills, such as:
From the Coulter Library Homepage (https://www.sunyocc.edu/library): Scroll to the Main Navigation Menu, and locate the section titled “The Research Process” and select the appropriate Guide.
From the Research Guide Page (https://sunyocc.libguides.com/): Select the “Research” Subject section and click on a guide which best meets your research needs.
Research Guides include helpful tips and instructions on every stage of the research process. For example, the "Select and Develop a Topic" guide breaks down the key steps of the research process.
